My Future in STEM is a community for the questions that STEM careers rarely make space for, such as whether to take the next step, whether the step you are on is still the right one, and what happens after that. It is built on a simple premise: the people best placed to support the next generation of STEM researchers and professionals are those who have recently navigated the same terrain. My Future in STEM brings those two groups into the same room. Its events are honest, informal, and designed for the kind of conversation that formal guidance struggles to hold, those where the answer to “should I do this?” is not always yes, and where the value of the community lies as much in the questions raised as in the answers given.

I co-founded this space to fill a gap that widening-participation students and early-career STEM professionals know well. Informal networks that carry decisive career information are not evenly distributed, and those without them arrive at each transition point with less information than their peers. My Future in STEM works to close that distance. Its programme centres on the transition points where good information is hardest to find and most needed, and its speakers are drawn from those who have themselves navigated those transitions, and who are recent enough to remember what they wish they had known.
