What I’m working on at the moment. (August 2026)

Right now my work falls into four strands.

Teaching and curriculum

I am coordinating the Foundation Year programme in the School of Human Sciences for the 2026/7 academic year. I consider myself really fortunate to have taught on foundation year programmes from early on in my career. Over the last decade, my students have taught me about courage and resilience, about not making assumptions, and about how learning typically starts with unlearning.

Most of the week will be spent working with the team to (re)design and deliver a curriculum that translates into impactful learning experiences that support coherent and successful transition into higher education.

Writing

I have a piece on AI literacy as an equity question in revision with The Biologist, produced through the RSB Bioscience Awarding Gap Network. I’m also working on what induction looks like as a belonging-centred conversation and how conferences can become pedagogic spaces.

Building community in STEM

Inclusion in STEM is a goal the community must continue to strive towards. Diverse perspectives fuel the creativity, problem-solving, and innovation needed to tackle the complex scientific challenges of our time. As Chair of the Programme Committee for the Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum, I’m working with the Programme Committee towards MLSFF2027.

Separately, I co-founded My Future in STEM, a space and community for the career questions we all have but are not always sure who to ask or where to go to for answers. It is built on the premise that the informal networks that carry decisive career information aren’t evenly distributed and is designed to close that gap. Explore My Future in STEM

Working towards. I’m completing my application for Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Wish me luck!).
